Frequently Asked Questions
Who needs GCAA 4.1.K training?
Personnel responsible for security screening of passengers, crew, baggage, cargo and mail. That covers screening officers, X-ray operators and search personnel working at airports and at cargo screening facilities in the UAE.
How long is the 4.1.K course?
1 day, delivered at the DGR Aviation training centre in Port Saeed, Dubai, or in-house at a screening facility so that duty rosters can be maintained.
Why do security screeners need dangerous goods training as well as security training?
Because the two disciplines look for different things. Security screening targets prohibited items and threats. Dangerous goods training teaches screeners to recognise hazardous items such as aerosols, lithium batteries, flammable liquids and compressed gases, which are restricted for safety reasons in air transport.
Does this apply to cargo screening as well as passenger screening?
Yes. The function covers screening of passengers, crew, baggage, cargo and mail, so it applies to regulated agent and cargo terminal screening operations as well as passenger terminal checkpoints.
What is the difference between 4.1.K and 4.1.F?
4.1.K is the screening function: examining passengers, baggage, cargo and mail at a screening point. 4.1.F is the passenger handling function: check-in, boarding areas and direct passenger contact. A screening officer and a check-in agent need different certificates.
How long is the certificate valid?
All dangerous goods training certifications are valid for two years. Screening operations with high staff turnover generally find a rolling in-house recurrent programme more practical than tracking individual expiry dates.
