4.1 H - DGR for Flight Crew
This course is designed for flight crew who will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to be able to identify the nine different classes of Dangerous Goods, its hazard and handling labels, packaging specification marks on the package and potential hidden Dangerous Goods in general cargo.
Special loading requirements, information required on the Notification to Captain (NOTOC) and emergency response will also be covered during this training.

Who needs GCAA 4.1.H training?
Flight crew, meaning pilots operating aircraft for UAE operators, including air operators that do not carry dangerous goods as cargo. The no-carry status does not remove the requirement, because dangerous goods still travel on board as passenger baggage, company materials and aircraft equipment.
How long is the flight crew dangerous goods course?
4 hours. It is the shortest of the crew categories alongside 4.1.J for cabin crew, and can be delivered in-house at an operator’s training facility or at the DGR Aviation training centre in Port Saeed, Dubai.
Why do pilots need dangerous goods training if the airline does not carry DG cargo?
Because dangerous goods reach the aircraft through other routes: passenger and crew baggage, company materials, catering supplies and aircraft equipment. Flight crew also need to interpret the notification to the captain, understand what is stowed where, and respond correctly to an in-flight incident involving a hazardous item.
Does the course cover the NOTOC?
Understanding the written information the captain receives about dangerous goods on board is a core part of the flight crew function this category covers. Operators should raise their own NOTOC format and emergency response procedures during the session.
Can this training be combined with our operator recurrent programme?

What is the difference between 4.1.H and 4.1.J?
4.1.H is the flight crew category. 4.1.J is the cabin crew category. Both run 4 hours, but the emphasis differs: flight crew focus on notification, decision-making and command response, while cabin crew focus on items in the cabin and first response to an in-flight event.
How often does flight crew DG training need renewing?
All dangerous goods training certifications are valid for two years. Crew recurrent intervals are usually driven by the operator’s approved training programme. Confirm the applicable cycle with your training department so the DG module aligns with your other recurrent requirements.
